They told her no.
Twice.
After she qualified.
After she trained.
After she showed up - ready to run.
They didn’t follow a process, they didn’t take into account Sport Integrity’s advice to make the process transparent and consistent.
They said nothing that explained why a young woman who simply needed support to access the track was turned away.
But here’s what they didn’t count on:
Juju showing up anyway.
Her voice getting louder.
A movement growing behind her.
This isn’t about advantage.
It’s about access.
It’s about dignity.
It’s about the right to participate.

She qualified.
She trained.
She showed up.
And still, she was denied the right to run.
This isn’t about advantage.
It’s about access.
Juju doesn’t need a head start.
She doesn’t need different rules.
She needs the support that allows her to reach the start line — the same start line every other qualified athlete walks to without a second thought.
Access is not an unfair edge.
Access is the floor, not the ceiling.
In 2023, she was supported across all three of her events.
In 2026, after qualifying again, she was denied.
Her needs didn’t change.
The system did.
So today, she’s speaking up.
Not because it’s easy.
Because it’s right.
🎵 “I wanna see you be brave”
This is Juju being brave.
Now it’s our turn.

Juju qualified. But because she needs support, she was excluded. This has to change.

We’ve launched.

Juliette qualified.
She trained.
She showed up.
Twice.
And both times, she was denied the right to run.
This is bigger than one athlete.
It’s about a system that:
❌ lacks consistency
❌ lacks accountability
❌ fails to provide access
We’re not just telling Juliette’s story.
We’re building a movement - and we’re inviting you to be part of it.
Stand for Juliette.
Stand for fairness.
Stand for every athlete who deserves the right to compete.
Together, we can create change - not just for Juju, but for all athletes.

Because access is not an advantage.

She did everything right.
Qualified.
Trained.
Showed up.
Twice.
And still—
she wasn’t allowed to run.
This isn’t inclusion.

This is exclusion by design.
Fix the system.

Juju gets to run! Thank you to all of Juju’s supporters who have followed her story to get assistance to allow her to compete in Athletics. Thanks to Athletics West for allowing Juju’s coach, Bec Le Maitre, to accompany her to her events at State Comps last weekend which means Juju has now qualified for Australian Athletics Nationals in April in the Long Jump and 400m. Now her campaign is underway to ensure she can get the same support at Nationals - stay tuned for her next step on having Australian Athletics clarify their new processes on support for athletes with intellectual disabilities 🤞🤞🤞
A year after being denied help to reach the start line, autistic athlete Juliette ‘Juju’ Mason returned to this year’s State Athletics Championships with a carer by her side. But the fight for change continues.
