We have never made a post like this before.
However, after a recent incident at our Secret Harbour venue, we feel it is important to speak up.
A group of teenagers entered the café and took slushies and drinks without paying, in full view of our staff members.
When approached, their behaviour was disrespectful and intimidating.
They mocked staff, made inappropriate physical contact, and showed little regard for the impact their actions were having on those around them.
The situation escalated to the point where our team felt unsafe and locked the venue’s doors while the incident was unfolding.
Most concerning of all, this was not the first time this group has been involved in this type of behaviour.
The matter has been reported to Police, and CCTV footage has been provided. Should further incidents occur, we will continue to pursue all available legal avenues to protect our staff, customers, and business.
At Surfing Lizard, we work hard to create a welcoming and safe environment for everyone. Our team members, many of whom are young employees themselves, deserve to come to work without fear of harassment, intimidation, or abuse.
We appreciate the support of our community and ask that everyone treat hospitality workers with the respect they deserve.

❤️🥹 8YO BOY AND $5… BUT A WHOLE WEEK OF HAPPINESS ❤️☕️

Last weekend, one of our lovely customers gave Ryan a $5 tip. 💵✨
To most adults, $5 might only be enough for a small coffee ☕️
But to an 8-year-old boy, it meant the world. 🥹❤️
Ryan has been talking about it all week.
He carefully put the note into his wallet 👛 and proudly showed it to everyone at home.
What surprised us most wasn’t the money itself.
It was what came after.
For the entire week, Ryan kept asking:
💬 “Is it the weekend yet, Dad?”
💬 “Can I come help at the café?”
💬 “I want to help serve customers.”

Sometimes we don’t realise how a small act of kindness can make such a big impact on someone else.

It wasn’t really about the $5.
It was about making a young boy feel valued, encouraged, and excited to come and help Mum and Dad at the café. ☕️✨
You’ve given him something much more meaningful than money.

❤️ A memory he’ll probably remember for a very long time.
The smile on his face lasted much longer than the $5 ever could. 🥹❤️

Good morning customers,☀️
Please join me in congratulating Cameron for receiving this month’s recognition 🏆👏
Cameron has been with us since he was just 14 — back when he was about my height… and now, as you can see, he’s decided to grow about a whole head taller than me 😅📈
Jokes aside, it’s been amazing to watch his journey. He started off young and a bit shy, but one thing that stood out from day one was his readiness to work. No matter the task, Cameron has always shown up willing to learn and give it a go.
He’s grown into someone who is:
👉 Reliable
👉 Hard working
👉 A great team player
But what really sets Cameron apart is his ability to work independently. He doesn’t need to be told twice — he takes ownership, stays focused, and gets the job done. That kind of autonomy is rare, and it’s something to be proud of.

A lot of people walk into a busy café on Mother’s Day and think:
“Wow… this place is packed.”
But many don’t realise what actually happens behind the scenes.
For hospitality businesses in Australia 🇦🇺
Mother’s Day is one of the biggest trading days of the year.
Some cafés will do:
☕️ 2x the normal coffee volume
🍳 2x the normal food volume
😵💫 with the same kitchen size
😵💫 same coffee machine
😵💫 same limited seating
😵💫 and the same 24 hours in a day.
People think the challenge is:
“Can you make enough money?”
No.
The real challenge is:
💥 keeping the team calm
💥 keeping customers happy
💥 keeping wait times reasonable
💥 and stopping the whole operation from collapsing under pressure.
One delayed docket…
One staff member calling in sick…
One coffee machine issue…
…and the whole day can snowball very quickly. 😅
Today at Surfing Lizard, we served:
📍 Coogee ~895 customers
📍 Secret Harbour ~1,068 customers
Over 1,900+ people in one single day. 🤯
When I first came to Australia years ago,
I never imagined one day we would build cafés operating at this level.
Not perfect.
Still learning every year.
Still improving systems every year.
But moments like this make me step back and appreciate:
how far consistency, discipline and a good team can really take you. 🌿
To every single staff member who showed up today…
from kitchen hands,
chefs,
baristas,
front of house,
supervisors,
dishwashers,
runners,
cleaners,
and managers…
