Kidogo Arthouse presents Saoirse ar Deireadh — Freedom at Last, an evening curated by Joanna Robertson, owner and creative force behind Kidogo Arthouse, commemorating 150 years since six Irish Fenians arrived in New York as free men after their daring escape from Fremantle aboard the Catalpa.

One hundred and fifty years ago, one of history's boldest prison breaks unfolded on this very coastline. Six Irish political prisoners — the Fremantle Six — slipped their convict work parties, raced for the shore, and rowed out to a waiting American whaling barque, the Catalpa. Behind them lay Fremantle Prison and a life sentence. Ahead lay the open ocean — and, eventually, freedom on the docks of New York.

It was a rescue years in the making, stitched together across two continents by John Devoy, Clan na Gael and thousands of Irish-Americans. It humiliated an empire, electrified a movement, and became one of the great folk stories of the Irish diaspora.

150 years on, we're throwing a party.

Saoirse ar Deireadh — Freedom at Last is a night of celebration in the old Irish tradition — equal parts seisiún, céilí and storytelling. Expect re-enactment vignettes bringing the Catalpa story to life, poetry, live music, and dancing to keep the floor moving well into the night.

If you know Kidogo, you know what's coming. Joanna has a gift for these evenings — full programme details still to be revealed, but trust that this one will be unforgettable.

Fresh from his standout appearance on ABC's The Piano — hosted by Amanda Keller and mentored by Guy Sebastian and Andrea Lam — Perth-based blues and jazz musician Louis Rebeiro has become one of the most exciting young artists emerging from Western Australia.

A pianist at heart, Louis is a remarkable multi-instrumentalist who also plays guitar and saxophone while delivering powerful vocals. His sound blends traditional blues, jazz and rock 'n' roll, and his energetic stage presence and improvisational style have made him a standout performer on the WA live music scene and beyond. Audiences are drawn in by his mix of boogie-woogie piano, soulful blues guitar and jazz-infused arrangements.
