Darkstar Coffee

Darkstar Coffee Darkstar Coffee is a distinguished specialty coffee roaster that prioritizes sourcing high-quality coffee beans from experienced farmers worldwide. The process of creating specialty coffee extends beyond just the bean; it encompasses a meticulous journey from soil to cup. Farmers utilize their knowledge of microclimates and environmental nuances to cultivate premium cherry coffee beans, harvested at the peak of ripeness. Following initial processing, the green beans are carefully transported with limited handling to ensure quality preservation.

To achieve specialty status during the 'green' stage, the beans must score above 80 points out of 100, meeting strict criteria for size, drying, and absence of defects. Darkstar employs profile roasting techniques to maximize flavor potential and deliver an exceptional tasting experience without faults or unwanted tastes. Adhering to globally recognized standards of excellence throughout every step of the supply chain underscores Darkstar Coffee's commitment to quality from farm to cup.

An insight into roasting coffee with Tim, our Head Roaster ☕️

What’s Tim’s favourite thing about coffee roasting? And his least favourite?

For Tim, it’s all about the specialty coffee, having a bit of fun with the process and constantly striving for perfection.

There’s always something to learn, tweak and improve, with the goal of making every roast just a little better than the last.

Blend or Single Origin? What’s the difference? ☕️

It mostly comes down to how the coffee is sourced and what you’re looking for in the cup.

Single origin coffee comes from one specific origin, allowing the unique flavours and characteristics of that place to really shine.

Blends bring coffees from different origins together to create a particular flavour profile, balance and consistency.

So, what’s each one best for?

Blends → balanced, consistent and great for milk based coffees like flat whites, lattes and cappuccinos.

Single origins → perfect for exploring different flavour profiles, especially if you enjoy drinking your coffee black.

Neither is better, they’re just different ways of approaching coffee.

Which one are you reaching for? 👀

Home Coffee Equipment Series: Part 2 ☕️

If you’re upgrading your home coffee setup for the first time, where should you actually start?

For us, we’d recommend keeping it simple. Start with a single dose grinder, then invest in good quality coffee before upgrading your machine.

Once you’ve got those sorted, a heat exchange coffee machine is a great next step for your setup, giving you the ability to brew espresso and steam milk at home.

It’s easy to get caught up in all the different equipment options, but you don’t need to upgrade everything at once. Start with the essentials and build from there.

Want to explore your options? Come by our Osborne Park showroom and chat with the team about what setup is right for you.

Introducing our latest single origin from Diofanor Ruiz at La Divisa in Buenavista, Quindío, Colombia.

This exceptional Java microlot is intensely aromatic and fruit-forward, with vibrant blueberry sweetness, bright acidity and delicate floral notes. As it cools, deeper sweetness develops, finishing with a rich, silky body and plenty of complexity.

Java is a particularly exciting variety, tracing its genetic roots back to Ethiopia. Diofanor first planted the variety at La Divisa in 2022, making this its first harvest after three years of careful cultivation.

Grown at 2,000 MASL and naturally processed, this is a beautifully expressive representation of Java.

An insight into roasting coffee with Tim, our Head Roaster ☕️

Roasting is where we bring out the potential in every coffee.

It’s not just about putting beans through a roaster. It’s about understanding each coffee, refining the roast and making sure we’re consistently bringing out the best qualities in every batch.

For us, quality and consistency go hand in hand. It’s our responsibility to make sure that every coffee we put into your hands meets the standard we expect from ourselves.

Because behind every cup is a lot of care, precision and attention to detail.

Home Coffee Equipment series: Part 1 ☕️

We’re answering some of the most common questions and thoughts you might have when upgrading your home coffee setup.

Your grinder plays a huge role in the quality and consistency of your coffee. A good grinder gives you more control over your grind size, which means you can dial in your coffee properly and get the most out of your beans.

You can have an amazing machine, but if your grinder isn’t up to scratch, you’re already working with a disadvantage.

So if you’re deciding where to spend your money first, start with the grinder.

Want to explore your options? Come by our Osborne Park showroom and check out our range of grinders in person.

Every step, from careful harvesting to slow drying has been thoughtfully managed to bring out the best in the coffee, resulting in a cup that’s expressive, balanced and full of character.
