What your espresso pour is telling you, and how to fix it. Swipe through to see what to look for.

If your shot runs quickly and tastes sharp or sour, the water is rushing through too fast to extract properly. Adjust your grinder to a finer setting so the water has more resistance and time with the coffee.

Spurting or uneven streams usually mean the water is finding gaps in the coffee puck. Level out your grounds and tamp evenly, so the water moves through the coffee at the same pace.

If your shot is slow and tastes bitter or harsh, the water is struggling to get through. Adjust your grinder to a coarser setting to let it flow more freely.

This is what you’re aiming for. A smooth, steady stream usually means a rich, balanced shot with no sharpness or bitterness.

The Queens Crown

To get to Discovery Drive in Perth, you can take the bus route number 910 or 950 and get off at the stop located near the intersection of Discovery Drive and Bermuda Road. Alternatively, if you're driving, you can take the Mitchell Freeway and exit at Hepburn Avenue. Then turn onto Discovery Drive and look for parking spots available in the surrounding area.
