There aren’t many Fremantle pubs with a history quite like this one. The National Hotel first opened in 1886, on a site that had previously housed a shop and a branch of the National Bank. The building was extensively rebuilt in 1895 and again in 1902, and has survived more than its fair share over the years, including major fires in 1975 and 2007.
These days, The National is still right in the thick of things at 98 High Street, with a restaurant and bar, live music seven nights a week and 12 individually styled hotel rooms upstairs. Head all the way to the top and you’ll find Fremantle’s first rooftop bar, with 360-degree views across the port and out towards Rottnest!
