Those who’ve visited our café in Osborne Park will definitely recognise this face.
When Max joined us all those years ago, he’d just driven across the country from Byron Bay with a dream of opening a café of his own one day. Perth seemed as good a place as any to start that journey. What followed was a mix of discovering that finding the right space is a lot harder than it looks and, we like to think maybe enjoying his life a little too much as part of the team as our cafe manager.
Max embodies everything we love about the café experience. He has a gift for building relationships, creating connections through the simple daily ritual of a coffee, and showing what true hospitality is all about.
For so many of our customers, he’s been a familiar face, a friendly convo, and a big part of what makes our café feel the way it does.
Today marks Max’s last official shift with us as he prepares to open the doors to his own café in the coming weeks. It’s been a long road, with months of delays and all the unexpected challenges that come with starting a small business, but seeing him bring this dream to life has been incredible.

While we’ll miss having you behind our coffee machine, we’re excited to see you serving great coffee and building new connections with the people of Shenton Park and surrounds.

“Where do you wish there was another Micrology venue?”
We asked. You guessed. We teased. Now it’s official. Micrology Coffee Roasters is popping up in BALI, CANGGU. 🌍☕️
Four weeks. One pop-up cafe. One shot at making this work. It started with a broken supply chain and ended with a lease in Bali.
Growing up in Perth with Indonesian heritage, Bali’s always been like a second home to owner, Dan.
Our first home (Perth) is one the most isolated city in the world…
So when global supply challenges hit we had to start looking closer to source our specialty coffee.
What we found surprised us…
The specialty coffee scene across Southeast Asia isn’t just growing. It’s thriving.
Alongside extraordinary coffee from Indonesia, PNG, Timor, Bali….We also found something you genuinely can’t buy: real relationships.
Working with coffee producers closer to home means we can visit, sit with & learn from them more often.
These are the partnerships that make every cup mean something. The care, the craft, the conversation around coffee in these regions, it resonates so deeply with who we are as Micrology.
Then the opportunity arrived.
The right space found us, in Canggu.
