Major Pathways Community Engagement – Lukin Drive Shared Pathway.

As part of the 2024/25 Major Pathways recurring Capital Works Program (subject to the 2024/25 budget approval by Council) and as identified in the City of Wanneroo Active Transport Plan 2022/23 to 2025/26, the City is proceeding with the construction of a high-quality red asphalt shared footpath 870m long x 3.5m wide along the verge of Lukin Drive between Connolly Drive and Marmion Avenue to improve access to schools, nearby community facilities and the Mitchell Freeway Principal Shared Path.

This design of this section of the footpath allows for the future construction of a second carriageway on this section of Lukin Drive. The new path will provide a connection to existing footpath networks on Bradman Drive, San Jose Turn and Baltimore Parade.

Ahead of notification for actual construction work packages throughout the financial year, this engagement is to inform adjacent property owner/occupier(s) in the immediate vicinity of project footprint of the proposed project, with letters due to be delivered from Monday, 27 May 2024.

A detailed design plan outlining the proposed layout of the project will be provided. Copies of engagement material are attached for information:

🗑️♻️ BOOKABLE BULK COLLECTIONS are here!!!

The new bookable bulk waste verge collection replaces the scheduled bulk junk and green waste service.

📫✉️ Snail mail is being delivered across our suburbs to ensure everyone is aware of the change but you can help in sharing the message too.

💻📞 The City will be moving to a new flexible service that gives you the freedom to choose when your household bulk junk and bulk green waste is collected each year.

What is each residential property entitled to?

Under the new system, every residential property will be able to book the following collections every financial year:

🗑️ 1 x bulk junk waste, up to 3m³

🗑️ 1 x bulk green waste, up to 3m³

🗑️ 1 x mattresses, up to 3 items

🗑️ 1 x white goods, up to 4 items

🗑️ 1 x e-waste (electronic), up to 6 items

All items will still be required to be placed on your verge ready for collection.

Different types of waste must be separated (as they are collected by different trucks) and placed loose on your verge (not in a skip bin or bagged).

Bookings will open in June 2024 with collections beginning 1 July 2024

The new service will be reviewed at regular intervals for customer service and expectations being met. Provisions have been made to provide extra pickups on request for a service coverable cost.

Bushfire Mitigation Work Program - City Owned/Managed Land


The City has appointed Entire Land Care as the contractor to undertake the City’s 2023 Bushfire Mitigation Program. Entire Land Care has many years of experience in conducting prescribed burning and using other methods of hazard reduction.

The burning program for 2023 includes 20 prescribed burns plus one site using mechanical work. The schedule below is listed in priority order however will need to be flexible, depending on weather conditions and if schools are located in close proximity to the burn. Where burn locations are close to schools, these burns will only be conducted on weekends or during school holidays.

In consultation with the City, Entire Land Care will be aiming to conduct as many of the burns as possible prior to the summer season, to help to reduce the bushfire risk around these locations. Due to the recent rainfalls, the contactor commenced burning (grasstrees only) at Discovery Park on 14 July 2023.

Installation of bench seat at Orara Park, Merriwa

(This information can be shared with the community)

The City, as part of its approved 2022/2023 Capital Works Program, is proceeding with the Installation of bench seat at Orara Park, Merriwa.

The works will include the installation of a bench seat as follows:
Installation of temporary fencing,
Installation of bench seat,
Remedial works.
Works are scheduled to commence on week of 12th June 2023, with anticipated completion within 2 weeks from commencement and weather permitting. The exact timing may vary depending upon the availability of the City’s contractors.

During construction, temporary fencing and traffic management will be in place to direct the public around the worksite and will remain in place for the duration of the works.

Whilst it is inevitable that works of this nature will cause some inconvenience, every endeavour will be made to ensure this is kept to a minimum. The City considers that this project will be of significant benefit to the local community, hence your support and co-operation would be greatly appreciated.
