WHY IS KALAHARI WANNEROO CLOSED?

Gossip spreads rumours; truth speaks for itself

We have had many people asking why Kalahari Wanneroo is closed, so we are providing the facts not the GOSSIP.

The main reason is the difficulty we experienced in working with our landlord.

Over the past months, we had three genuine and serious potential buyers interested in taking over Kalahari Wanneroo. These were not just enquiries; they were prepared to move forward.

However, due to difficulties, delays and a lack of cooperation regarding the lease and the future of the premises, all three potential buyers eventually walked away.

Three potential opportunities to keep the business operating were lost.

When selling a business, potential buyers need certainty that they can secure the premises and continue operating. Without that certainty, and when lease negotiations become difficult, buyers may decide not to proceed.

The closure also occurred during a challenging period for small hospitality businesses. Labour costs, rent, electricity, insurance, food, supplier costs and other expenses have continued to increase, while the rising cost of living has reduced customers’ discretionary spending.

Small businesses are therefore facing higher operating costs while customers have less capacity to absorb price increases.

Throughout this process, our staff remained a priority. We worked to secure employment opportunities for every member of our team, and we are pleased that they were not left without options following the closure.

Kalahari Wanneroo was more than just a café. It was a place where people met, celebrated and connected.

We explored every available option to keep the business operating and had interested buyers prepared to move forward. Finding buyers was not the issue. The difficulty was progressing the lease arrangements required for the sale.

These are the facts behind the closure of Kalahari Wanneroo.
